Hans Hedemann Surf School: A Brief History
Hans Hedemann was born and raised in the Hawaiian Islands. A local boy, Hans was born a waterman and had a natural talent for surfing. Immediately after high school, Hans joined the ASP World Tours (Association of Surfing Professionals) and was a Hawaii representative for the World Tour. He visited 30 schools a year to promote ocean safety and preservation.
As a professional surfer, he has won many distinguished competitions. He places first in Billabong Pro (Australia), Gunston 500 (South Africa) and was the first to win back-to-back ASP World Events.
In 1997, the Hans Hedemann Surf School launched. It is now the premier surfing school in Hawaii. A team of lifeguard and CPR trained instructors and safety guides dedicate themselves to an enriched Hawaiian surfing experience to provide a great adventure for the beginner, intermediate, and advanced surfer.
Hans Hedemann Surf School began offering lessons at the Kaimana Beach Hotel with activities desks at the Sheraton, Outrigger, and Park Shore. In 2018, Hans Hedemann Surf School opened its shop at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel, servicing all Waikiki hotels by offering complimentary transportation to and from any Waikiki Hotel. From Queen Kapiolani Hotel, we take our students to the mellow end of Waikiki surfing at Queen’s Beach, known for its consistent waves and longer rides.
Soon after, HHSurf also teaches in the home of professional surfing competitions like the Triple Crown, Pipeline Pro, and the Eddie on the North Shore of Oahu, at the Laniakea Beach.
