How to Surf

How to surf for beginners

We have taught 1000s of surf students with a simple 3 step technique. Weather you’ve surfed a few times or have barely been in the ocean, we’ve got you covered.

Our technique is easy to remember and that is why our students have had so much success with it.

In a nutshell this is what we teach:

1. Slide to your knees

2. One foot forward

3. Twist up

As a good wave approaches your surf instructor will get you prepared to catch it by lining you up and having you paddle.

We then thrust the back of your surfboard until the momentum of the wave completely catches you.

The first thing you do is slide to your knees. To do this you grab the rails of your surfboard and bring your knees up towards your chest. Once your here you can sit on your knees until your ready for the next step.

Next, you want to bring one foot up. Your hands will still be grabbing the rails of the surfboard, kind of like a runners pose.

After this you’ll slowly twist into a standing up position. You simply pivot your toes until your in a squat position.

After step three it’s all about balance! To maintain balance keep your knees bent and your eyes forward.

Ride the wave as long as possible, the wave will start to slow down after a period of time. Once you notice the wave slowing down, simply reverse your steps and come back down to your belly.

You can go and try these steps out by yourself! Or you can book a surf lesson with us if you want a professional surf instructor to coach you through the process!
